IDA GROVE - Gary Lee Kron, Sr., 76, of Ida Grove, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026 at CHI Health St. Elizabeth, Lincoln, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, with Darren C.E. Goslar, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Gary’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Grant Township Cemetery, Ticonic, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa.

Gary Lee was born June 25, 1949 in Castana, the son of Merle and Mildred (Ingram) Kron. He attended school in Castana and Onawa, where he later obtained his GED. On May 24, 1969, Gary enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 21, 1977, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service.

Gary Kron and Dorothy Rath were united into marriage on Sept. 5, 1970 in Ida Gove. To this union, four children were born: Jenniffer, Amy, Susan, and Gary. Although the couple later divorced, they remained very close throughout the years.

Gary Lee Kron worked for Farmland Industries in Denison for many years. He also worked as a truck driver, a job he truly enjoyed. Most recently, he was employed as a security guard at Tyson Foods in Denison.

In his free time, Gary enjoyed watching Nebraska Cornhuskers football, visiting the casino, and purchasing scratch tickets. He loved food and especially looked forward to Friday nights out at Beef-N-Brew in Mapleton, where he enjoyed prime rib.

Survivors include his children, Jenniffer (Shannon) Hopkins of Ida Grove, Susan (Bill) Henkelman of Dunlap, and Gary (Tara) Kron, Jr. of Schaller; seventeen grandchildren, Emily Goodpasture, Kelsie (Nick) Galbraith, Melissa (Logan) Cedeno, Destiny (Zane) Nelson, Jaxon Hopkins, Cassandra (Matt) Tillman, Tobi (Spencer) Shade, Cheyenne (Zack) Putzier, Ryan Kron, Lacey Kron, Brittany (Shane) Tisdale, Michael Bendixen, Samantha (Isaiah) Salmon, Michaela (Jeremy) Barker, Veronica (Brett) Taylor, Danielle Kron, and Alexandria Kron; many great-grandchildren; brother, Mike (Barb) Kron of Sioux City; former spouse, Dorothy (Rath) Schoba; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Mildred (Ingram) Kron; daughter, Amy (Preston) Burcham; granddaughter, Rebecca Cedeno; two grandsons, Joseph Christopher Landon and Joseph Hopkins; great-granddaughter, Addyson Grace Hicks; siblings, sister, Anna Marie (Louis) Flint, brother, Leo Kron, sister, Reva Jean (Kenneth) Baxter, sister, Phyllis, (Leo) Stevens, sister, Edna Louise Lenning, sister, Betty Lou (Paul) Gallup, and brother, Merle “Butch” Kron.
