Keith Gerald Fineran, the son of Emmett and Catherine (Henkelman) Fineran, was born on Sept. 13, 1949, in Denison. He was raised on a farm near Boyer, Iowa, where life was shaped by hard work, faith, and the quiet strength of family. He graduated with the Odebolt-Arthur High School Class of 1968, carrying with him the values that would guide him throughout his life.

Soon after, Keith answered a higher call and enlisted in the United States Air Force. During the Vietnam War, he served honorably in the Philippines. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and love for his country. When his service concluded with the Air Force, he returned home, ready to build a life grounded in the same dedication he had shown in uniform.

On Oct. 9, 1976, Keith married Debra “Deb” Lansink at the Little Brown Church, beginning a partnership rooted in love, faith, and enduring commitment. Together, they were blessed with three children Jim, Laura, and John who became the center of Keith’s world. He was a steady, caring presence in their lives, offering guidance, support, and quiet pride in all they did.

In 1978, Keith began working as a custodian for the Odebolt-Arthur School District, a role he carried out with pride for many years. Alongside his work, he continued to serve in the Army National Guard, once again answering the call to duty when deployed to Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry Regiment, the “Red Bull.” His willingness to serve, again and again, spoke to the depth of his character and sacrifice.

After returning home in 2005, Keith retired from his custodial career but remained a man of purpose. He spent the next 13 years operating Easy Way Cattle Care before fully retiring. Even then, he never stepped away from the people and community he loved.

Keith’s life was woven deeply into the fabric of his community. He served on the Arthur City Council, dedicated his time to the Arthur Fire Department and First Responders, and lived his faith through St. Martin’s Church, where he served on the church council and as a lay minister. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and gave 46 years of fellowship and service to the McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion.

Yet, beyond all his service and accomplishments, Keith’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured time with his grandchildren, whose laughter and presence brought him immense happiness. He found simple pleasure in cherished traditions, summer trips to the Iowa State Fair and the Spencer Fair, and in the camaraderie of lifelong friendship, especially the adventures he shared with fellow veteran Frank Morris, fondly known as “A Trip Around the World.”

Keith will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was, a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a great-grandfather, a loyal friend, and a true servant to his country and community. His life was one of steady kindness, humble service, and enduring love, a legacy that will continue to live on in all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Deb Fineran of Ida Grove; sons, Jim Fineran of Ottumwa, IA, and John (Sarah) Fineran of Schleswig; grandchildren: Ava Fineran, Addy Fineran, Ella Fineran, Marzia Fineran, Trey Kline, Tayten Kline, Hayden Fineran, Haxton Fineran; great grandchildren, Hoyt Kline and Wrenly Naberhaus; brother, Kenny (Sandie) Fineran, Bob (Leah) Fineran, and Randy (Pippa) Fineran; sisters, Sandi Grote and Carolyn Mortensen; brothers-in-law Doug (Teresa) Lansink, and Den (Tammy) Lansink; sister-in-law, Deana Lansink; extended family and dear friends.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Catherine Fineran; daughter, Laura Fineran; grandson, Emmett Fineran; great granddaughter, Lainey Naberhaus; sisters, Lois Fineran, Barb (Jack) Milner; brothers, Jim and John Fineran; brother-in-law, Stan Mortensen; and mother and father in-law, Bernard (Leila) Lansink.
